KID MASSIVE INTERVIEW
26. June 2009

With Reza & Ulysses "We Shall Prevail" already blowing up dance floors across the world we decided to catch up with Kid Massive. With temperatures rising, the technical talents of Kid Massive are spreading & with projects being signed by the likes of the legendary Roger Sanchez, 2009 looks set to be a very big year! We caught up with the man himself for a few wise words!

You're currently in the studio finishing off tracks with Michael Gray. How did you guys hook up and how is it going? Any more plans for future collaborations?
"He contacted me after I had done the Cookie Monsters ft Tyree Cooper - Hip Housing remix and really wanted me on board to remix his forth coming single on Eye Industries. Things then picked up and we agreed to do a track together called LATINIUM, which has turned out really well and we’ve managed to secure an additional remix from Paul Harris. We’re doing a compilation together on my own label Audiodamage Records in the near future as well as a few tours together under the Audiodamage brand, so there's lots of things in the pipeline."

Your own label, Audiodamage Records is on fire with sales on Beatport growing rapidly. What's next on the agenda for the label and how is the touring schedule looking?
"The label is doing very well, with the latest releases picking up support from across the board by the likes of Roger Sanchez, Fedde Le Grand, Axwell, John Digweed, Laidback Luke and more. The next few singles are pure mainroom killers. We’ve recently acquired a track DBR vs BLAZE - TO MY BEAT which we’re currently getting mixes done for and expect this one to be a big one for us. The tour is also gaining momentum with our first event at MOS in London and at The Honey Club in Brighton, plus newly secured residencies at Kellys in Portrush (Ireland) The Whitehouse (London) and Thalia Lounge (Rotterdam). We are doing weekly Sunday boat party events in Ibiza this year, followed by our Ibiza residency at Plastik in conjunction with Judgement Sundays."

By your own admission, you are very selective in who you choose to work with at the moment. What are the major influences in your decision making and what would be a big no no for you?
"Last year I did a serious amount of remix work, which I think was starting to affect the creative output on my own original material. Which is why I've decided to cut back and spend time focussing on my own material instead. If I am to take on a remix, it has to grab me straight away. Sometimes I create completely new backing tracks, with nothing from the original except the vocal and its work like that which is very time consuming. So this year, its all about originals and select remixes only!"

Talk us through your decision to re release your Get Busy track...
"Get Busy was originally signed to Soda Records (Run by Soul Avengerz) who have set up a working deal with the legendary US label Strictly Rhythm. SR approached Paul & Wayne (Soul Avengerz) and said they where looking at re releasing get busy with a bunch of new mixes. I drafted in the remixes, which I think are all spot on; Chris Kaeser, Jorgensen, Disfunktion and there's also a new remix from myself which is more clubby than the original. The soul Avengerz mix will also be in the package."

So, what’s lined up for Ibiza this year ?
"My label manager Luke Hayes (aka Ethan Project) and I and joined forces with Sheffield based promoters Charged to host Sunday events this year in Ibiza. We're doing boat parties every weekend for the whole season (from San An) and after parties in conjunction with Judgement Sundays at Plastik. We have a string of good party DJs lined up, both international and UK based."

Is there anywhere in the world you've not played yet but would like to and why?
"I would love to go to Tokyo, that's always been a dream for me… and hopefully it will happen sooner rather later! I'm lucky enough to have DJ'ed in most parts of the world - South America, Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Far East."

If your epitaph could contain just 3 words to sum you up, what would they be?
"HE ROCKED IT!"

If you were told tomorrow you had to give up music or sex forever, which would you choose & why?
"Hmmm, I'd have to say music. Couldn't live without sex… no man can! IMPOSSIBLE I TELL YOU, IMPOSSIBLE!"
