Soraya Vivian Interview

Soraya, how would you describe what you do in a few sentences?
"I am full time HOUSE DIVA! :) I write and perform funky house/dance trks and get to see the world!"

You have a track out now on Born To Dance Records with Studiopunks, a remake of the classic "I Don't Want Nobody (Tellin' me what to do)". How was it working with these guys are you excited about this release?
"Very excited! These guys are great to work with they are very talented and are getting a lot of attention at the moment witch they deserve. I actually wrote a track for them called Believe and we got it signed to Vendetta / Blanco Y Negro and now it's on many european comps.

When they asked me to do another single I was more than happy to work with them again. I Don't Want Nobody is a great track and perfect for live PAs."

What else have you been up to since you closed the Ibiza season with Fierce Angels and the Freemasons?
"I've been busy giging and been in the studio working on some tracks with Degrees Of Motion and Lenny Fontana."

Where do you get your inspiration from when writing lyrics and melodies (Toplines) for producers?
"Depending on the vibe of the track. If its uplifting and anthemic I tend to bend to that type of lyric ,happy smiley uplifting. If its a darker production the lyrics will reflect this however there is no set formula… "Dirty Shake" for example was just a quirky hook that worked and lent its self perfect to the track."

You worked with Chris Montana on "Dirty Shake", released originally on S2G records, which has now been snapped up by Strictly Rhythm. How does it feel to be signed by one of the biggest labels in the world and what can we expect from this re-release?
"Of course it's great ! Strictly Rhythm are a legendary label and as I wrote it its great that they picked it up. This is what I am striving for to be recognized by the big players in the house scene."

Have you always been such an exciting live performer or is it the buzz you get from big crowds that spurs you on?
"I love performing live it’s the only way to do it and give the crowd what they want. It's important to me that people have an experience of getting involved it’s all about the energy you give off and you will get it back."

As a London girl, where would you direct any clubbers into good house music to go out?
"Fierce Angel nights of course! But also Pacha, Ministry, The Egg...there's plenty really."

You have done a lot of Charity work in the past, where does this passion come from and have you anything lined up for this year?! If not would you like to train and run the London Marathon with Born To Dance next year?!
"Good question. I lost my beloved dad last year to kidney cancer. Its called the sly cancer…you do not get ant symptoms really so by the time its diagnosed its usually to late…. Actually I was at the House Of Lords last Wednesday I was invited by the James Whale to raise awareness and up the profile of this horrendous disease... I am actively involved in fund raising as end of life drugs are so expensive and we need to do all we can…. I also support Brest Cancer charity.

And yes I would love to do the marathon… I'd have to walk though!! "

What are your aims for 2010 and is anything exciting we don't know about already on it's way?
"My aims for 2010 well...fingers crossed....the big project I’ve been working on will come to fruition!

I carry on touring with Mark Doyle and his Fierce Angels, have another track with Studiopunks in the pipeline as well as some other projects with HedKandi producers. So 2010 is all about the music and live shows!"

What's the most embarrassing thing that's happened to you whilst performing or have you been lucky so far?
"Falling off stage into the crowd which was kinda scary! lol And saying good evening Manchester when I was in Cambridge!!!!! I mean please.lol"

Finally to all of us aspiring singers, as a very sexy, bold performer can you give some tips on choosing the perfect stage outfit and persona for the night?
"Depending on the vibe of the gig if its gorgeous and glamorous wear something that has a bit of bling that attracts the guys and girls. Usually sytle it out…. but don’t were 6 inch heels on a beach like I did in Dubai. It wasn’t a good look !!!"
