Hybrasil formed when five friends from the small seaside town of Wicklow, Ireland, built a homemade studio and spent six months working on demos that they passed out to their friends and anyone else that would listen. In 2005 the band played several high profile gigs supporting such acts as Republic Of Loose, Idlewild and The Chalets, whilst they also opened for legendary Liverpool act The Las, for their first gig in over a decade.
Hybrasils debut EP/single We Got Music, was released nationally in September 2005 and attracted the band prominent admirers in Ireland such as 2FMs Dan Hegarty and Larry Gogan as well as a host of regional radio stations. The single also received a limited release in the UK, Germany and Japan in February 2006, and the band went on a national tour of the UK when We Got Music debuted at #29 on the college airplay charts and was supported by a host of deejays that included such names as Clint Boon, Laurence Guest and Linda Serck.
Hybrasil released their follow-up EP, When Im Yawning, in August, with an accompanying video that continues to receive airplay on European television. They also made their live television debut on the RTÉs Tubridy Tonight Show in September before returning to the studio in early 2007 to put the finishing touches on their debut album,. They took a brief break from recording when they were handpicked by Mike Scott to open for the Waterboys on their Irish tour. Another single, God Bless The Devil, preceeded the release of their critcally-acclaimed debut album, The Monkey Pole and the band spent the next year touring Ireland and occasionally playing in the UK.
In January 2008, Nipper Kinsella parted company under amicable circumstances and the rest of the band made the decision to continue as a four-piece. They appeared at a host festivals over the summer and are now spending the rest of the year working on the follow-up to The Monkey Pole.
